Shivratri 2023 – Mahashivratri 2023 Date, Time and Significance

Maha Shivratri 2023

MahaShivratri 2023 is the second most widely celebrated religious festival observed by the Hindu people across India, to worship Lord Shiva. It is celebrated on the night of #Chaturdashi Tithi (fourteenth lunar day) of Krishna Paksha (dark lunar half) of Phalgun month of our Hindi calendar.

In different parts of India and abroad, this ‘Vrat’ or fast is celebrated with a lot of devotion and zeal. In the temples of Lord Shiva, people gather in huge numbers to offer water, milk, honey, curd and sugarcane juice to the ‘Shiv-Lingam’ or the abstract representation of the Lord after observing a day-long fast. It is widely celebrated across the globe nowadays by the devotees of Baba Bhole Nath (another name for Lord Shiva).

It is believed that Lord Shiva is pleased even if someone just puts a pot full of water on the ShivLingam. Since our death comes under his jurisdiction, if He is pleased, then He can deter one’s death and grant a new lease of life.

Lord Shiva is one of the most powerful deities of ‘TriDev’ – Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar (Shiva), and the power of the destruction of the world is given to Him only.
