This year’s first Partial Lunar Eclipse ( खग्रास चन्द्र ग्रहण) is going to take place in Scorpio sign and Anuradha/Jyeshtha nakshatra in the evening of 26 May, beginning from 15.15 PM, and this unique and rare celestial phenomenon will continue in the sky till 18.23 PM, Indian standard time.
This partial lunar eclipse will be visible eastern India, most of the countries in South Eastern Asia, Australia. Lunar eclipse has mythological as well as spiritual importance also in India.
Foreigners give utmost scientific importance to it. People in India take advantage of this opportune moment to attain ‘Mantra Siddhi’ as it is widely considered as a very auspicious ‘Muhurat’ to perform spiritual practices.
In some part of India, it is consider as an inauspicious period to go for journey for any special purpose from seven days prior to the eclipse. Eating food, attending the call of nature is also prohibited during the time span of eclipse happening in the sky.
Restrictions for eating anything and attending nature’s call will begin from 06.15 AM on 26 May.
It is term as “Sootak” ( सूतक ) in astrological terms. This time is perfect to perform special religious deeds, taking bath in holy rivers and lakes, giving alms to needy and poor people, reciting religious hymns and holy scriptures, recitation of ‘Mantra’s, ‘Mantra Siddhi’, meditation, performing ‘Yagna’, etc.
Religious people should collect things according to their Moon sign to give as alms to any Brahmin, as per their capacity to pacify adverse effects and/or ongoing Dasha period of unfavourable planets to invite affluence in life.
During the period of restriction and eclipse some actions are strictly prohibited as per ‘Shastra’ ( शास्त्र ). Like, touching the idols of God and Goddesses, eating and drinking, sleeping, sexual activities, cutting of nails and hair, applying oil on body, etc.

In our ancient scriptures it has given utmost importance as it is taking place in the full Moon evening of Baishakh (बैशाख मास) month of Hindi calendar, when the Moon will be in Her debilitation sign Scorpio and in the constellation of Saturn/Mercury, Anuradha/Jyeshtha.

बुधवार 26 मई 2021 को बैशाख पूर्णिमा के दिन चन्द्रग्रहण है जो कि इस सम्बतसर का पहला ग्रहण है। यद्यपि ये ग्रहण समस्त भारत में नहीं है और प्रमुख रूप से पश्चिमी बंगाल, अरुणाचल प्रदेश, नागालैण्ड, पूर्वी उडीसा, मिजोरम, मणिपुर, आसाम, त्रिपुरा तथा मेघालय में थोडे समय के लिये देखा जा सकेगा।
इन स्थानों की खास बात ये होगी कि इन स्थानों पर चन्द्रमा ग्रस्त उदित होगा और चन्द्रोदय के कुछ ही समय बाद ग्रहण की समाप्ति हो जायेगी। ये खण्डग्रास के रूप में ही इन क्षेत्रों में दिखाई देगा और भारत के अन्य क्षेत्रों में ये नहीं दिखाई देगा।
भारत के अलावा दक्षिण पूर्वी एशिया(इण्डोनेशिया, जापान, सिंगापुर, बांग्लादेश, फ़िलीपीन्स, दक्षिणी कोरिया, बर्मा आदि में ये ग्रहण खग्रास रूप में दिखाई देगा। जबकि खण्डग्रास के रूप में उत्तरी तथा दक्षिणी अमेरिका, प्रशान्त और हिन्द महासागर में देखाई देगा।
इस ग्रहण को लेकर ध्यान देने योग्यबात ये है कि इस ग्रहण का प्रभाव सम्पूर्ण भारत में नहीं होगा बल्कि जिन क्षेत्रों में ये आंशिक रूप में ही दिखाई दे रहा है उन क्षेत्रों में ही ग्रहन और ग्रहण के प्रभाव का बिचार किया जायेगा।
अत: इस क्षेत्र में रहने वाले लोगों को स्नान, दान, जप, तप, अनुष्ठान आदि के महात्म्य का विचार करना चाहिये। अन्य क्षेत्रों में संस्कारादि शुभ कार्यों में ग्रहण क विचार नहीं किया जायेगा।
इस ग्रहण के सूतक के दौरान प्रभु भक्ति, ईष्ट पूजन, जप, तप, दान, तर्पण, हवन आदि कार्य किये जाने चाहिये।ग्रहण के दौरान किये गये इन कार्यों का फ़ल फ़ल अनन्त गुना होता है। ये ग्रहण अनुराधा और ज्येष्ठा नक्षत्र तथा वृश्चिक राशि में घटित होगाअत: इस राशि के जातकों को सावधानी रखने की जरूरत है।
