Significance of Guru NanakDev Jayanti

The rituals are based on the custom of antiquity. Guru Nanak Jayanti day brings people together and prays in front of a higher God Guru NanakDev.

Devotees perform a prayer for forty-eight hours. On the auspicious day of Gurpurab, the prayers end.

One day before the festival, people prepare for processions in honour of Guru NanakDev. The procession consists of carrying Sikh Flags and the palanquin of Guru Granth Sahib.

Devotees decorate the Palanquin or ‘Palki’ artistic way with their hands.

Most of the Gurudwaras organise Kirtan (prayer offerings) and Amrit Sanchar ceremonies. On this day, they prepare sweets and meals (Langar) to offer to each and every one of those who come to eat.

He comes in his religious faith to offer a meal to anyone who comes to his door. In this, all the children, men and women participate with great enthusiasm.

Guru NanakDev Jayanti Across the Country
