Lakshmi-Vishnu Puja Procedure for Akshaya Tritiya

On the day of Akshaya Tritiya, Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi are worshipped to attain not only happiness and prosperity in life but also stability and continuity. This practice not only maintains positivity in one’s life but also helps in alleviating financial scarcity. It is believed that any individual who performs the worship on this day with complete rituals and devotion receives manifold rewards. According to mythological legends, it was on this very day that Lord Vishnu incarnated as Parashurama.

Tips for Lakshmi-Vishnu Puja Procedure for Akshaya Tritiya

Wake Up Early

To perform the worship, wake up before sunrise, take a bath, and get ready by wearing clean clothes—preferably in yellow or white—for the occasion. Thereafter, clean the designated worship area and sprinkle holy Ganges water (*Gangajal*) over it. For this purpose, clean the altar (*Chowki*) thoroughly and spread a clean yellow cloth over it.

Installation of the Deities

After spreading the yellow cloth on the altar, install the idols or framed images of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Subsequently, place a *Kalash* (sacred pot) filled with water, mango leaves, and a coconut near the idols of the deities. Following this, *Tulsi* (holy basil) leaves are also offered to Lord Vishnu. Endeavor to perform the entire worship ceremony with strict adherence to all prescribed rituals. To infuse the worship with spiritual energy, place gold objects—such as coins or jewelry—near the deities.

Sankalp (Vow) and Avahan (Invocation)

Perform the worship by taking a *Sankalp* (sacred vow) in your own name. If you are unable to be physically present, you may have the worship performed on your behalf by a priest (*Pandit*), who will take the *Sankalp* in your name. Before commencing the worship, take a vow by stating your name, *Gotra* (lineage), the specific date (*Tithi*), and the specific objective or purpose of the worship. Thereafter, invoke Lord Vishnu by chanting the mantra “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya” and invoke Goddess Lakshmi by chanting the mantra “Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah.” During this invocation, light a *Diya* (lamp) filled with *Ghee* (clarified butter) and light incense sticks at the worship site.

Perform Abhishek

In addition to the ritualistic worship and chanting of mantras, an Abhishekam (ritual bathing) of Lord Vishnu’s idol is also performed. To do this, prepare Panchamrit (the five nectars) by mixing milk, yogurt, honey, Ghee, and sugar with water, and then use this sacred mixture to perform the Abhishekam. In addition to *Tulsi* leaves, the worship ceremony involves offering yellow flowers, sandalwood paste, saffron, fruits, and sweets. Along with performing the *Abhishek* (ritual bathing of the deity) and offering Prasad (sacred food), one should also chant the mantras prescribed by the priest.

Vishnu Sahasranama or Lakshmi Stotra

On this day, alongside the worship rituals, the recitation of scriptures and the chanting of mantras are considered essential. For this purpose, reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama and the Lakshmi Ashtottara Shatanamavali is considered highly auspicious. If time is limited, one may chant the mantra “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya” 108 times and “Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah” 108 times. This practice brings peace of mind and helps in overcoming obstacles encountered in one’s endeavors. Individuals who frequently struggle with anger issues can derive significant benefit from chanting these mantras on a regular basis.

Charity and Benevolence are Significant

Light a lamp filled with ghee (clarified butter) at the place of worship and perform the Aarti (ritual waving of lamps) for Lord Vishnu. Thereafter, distribute white-colored food items—such as Kheer (rice pudding)—among everyone as Prasad. Additionally, Panjiri (a sweet preparation made with coriander) and yellow-colored sweets are also distributed. On the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, make it a point to give donations to the needy. Offer them food items, clothing, and money as charity. It is believed that the spiritual merit (Punya) gained from acts of charity performed on this day multiplies infinitely.
