An interactive series to know your planets astrologically ~ Written by Acharya Hitesh Kumar

In Vedic astrology, Ketu is not a physical celestial body but a shadow planet, representing the south node of the Moon. Though invisible to the naked eye, Ketu wields a significant influence over human destiny, symbolizing spiritual detachment, enlightenment, and liberation from material desires. This article explores Ketu’s unique characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, and the diverse effects it brings when placed in each of the twelve astrological houses.

Nature of Ketu

In ancient beliefs and Vedic scriptures, Ketu is considered the lower part of the demon who drank Amrit during the Samudra Manthan. This act made him immortal. The upper part of this demon became known as Rahu, while the lower part was called Ketu.

Since Ketu is headless, it is said to lack physical intellect and instead represents the sixth sense, perceptions not governed by the mind. Thus, Ketu symbolizes things that are mysterious or “out of this world.” Many scriptures regard Ketu as the planet of Moksha (liberation) or spiritualism, as it is associated with experiences beyond material existence.

Strong Ketu
A strong Ketu grants a person sharp analytical abilities and exceptional thinking, often essential for research work. It enhances intuition and foresight, one’s “sixth sense.” Such individuals are often deeply spiritual, introverted, and strong believers in divine forces.

Weak Ketu
In astrology, Ketu is considered similar in nature to Mars. However, being a headless entity, its effects are determined by the house, sign (rashi), and planetary conjunctions in the birth chart (kundali). A weak Ketu lacks direction and can lead to confusion or detachment depending on its placement.
