According to the Hindu Panchang, the festival of Sita Navami is celebrated on the ninth day (Navami Tithi) of the *Shukla Paksha* (waxing phase of the moon) during the month of Vaishakh. This festival is observed approximately one month after Ram Navami. It is believed that worshipping Lord Rama on this day yields blessings of double magnitude. Furthermore, offering prayers to Lord Rama and Goddess Sita on this occasion invokes the special grace of Lord Hari (Vishnu) and Mother Lakshmi. Based on the *Udaya Tithi* (the specific timing of the lunar day), the celebration of Sita Navami will take place on April 25th.

The Significance of Worshipping Mother Sita

Worshipping Mother Sita bestows upon married women the blessing of *Akhand Saubhagyavati*—the enduring fortune of a long and blissful married life. Observing a fast on this day is also believed to bring about happiness and prosperity. Goddess Sita is revered as an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. According to religious beliefs, any individual who observes a fast with deep faith and devotion on this auspicious occasion attains spiritual merits equivalent to performing the “16 Great Acts of Charity” (*Shodasha Mahadan*).

Moreover, it leads to the absolution of sins, resolves difficulties encountered in life, and facilitates the completion of tasks that have been stalled or pending. Ultimately, the worship of Mother Sita fosters the attainment of patience, discipline, and inner peace.

Puja Rituals for Sita Navami and Janaki Jayanti

On this day, wake up during the *Brahma Muhurat* (the auspicious pre-dawn period) and take an early bath. Then, wear clean clothes and take a solemn vow to observe the fast (*Vrat*).

Next, clean a wooden altar (*Chowki*) and spread a clean, red cloth over it. Then, place an idol or a framed image of Lord Shri Ram and Mother Sita upon it.

Subsequently, light a lamp (*Deepak*), incense, and aromatic sticks (*Agarbatti*), and offer flowers and *Akshat* (unbroken rice grains). While doing so, also chant sacred mantras. On this day, worshipping Lord Shri Hari (Vishnu) and Mother Lakshmi is considered extremely meritorious and fruitful.

Offer items symbolizing marital bliss (Suhag) to Mother Sita; specifically, offer Red or yellow colour saree, Sindoor, Chunari, Bindi and bangles.

In addition to chanting mantras,

sure to recite passages from the Ramcharitmanas or the Sundarkand.

Mother Sita originated from the Earth itself; therefore, on this day, Mother Earth (Dharti Mata) and the plough are also worshipped.
