For the long life of the husband, fasts are observed on Vat Savitri and Vat Purnima. But there is often confusion among people regarding this fast. On this day, women observe fast without eating or drinking throughout the day and pray for a happy married life. Vat Purnima fast will be observed on 29 June 2026. Whereas before that, Vat Savitri fast was observed on 16th May. First of all, let us understand what is the difference between these two fasts and what is the auspicious time for Vat Purnima fast. First of all, let us understand how Vat Purnima fast is different from Vat Savitri fast.<\/p>

Both fasts are observed for the happiness of married life. Generally, women of many states including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Gujarat observe this fast. Actually, the fast of Vat Purnima is observed on the full moon date of Jyoshtha month. Whereas on the other hand, there is a tradition of observing Vat Savitri Vrat on the new moon day of Jyeshtha month.<\/p>

Vat Purnima fast date<\/strong><\/p>

According to the Vedic calendar, the full moon date of Jyeshtha month will be start on 29 June 2026 at 03:07 am. Whereas it will end on 30 June 2026 at 05:27 am. Banyan tree is worshiped on this day.<\/p>

According to the Panchang, two auspicious Yogas are being formed on this day for worship. The first auspicious yoga is Shukla, which will start from morning till 2.36 pm. The second yoga is Brahma which is being formed after the auspicious yoga. It will be auspicious to worship in both these yogas.<\/p>

Why is the banyan tree worshiped during Vat Purnima fast?<\/strong><\/p>

Banyan tree is considered very auspicious in Hindu religion. It is believed that Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh reside in this tree. It is considered the best due to its shady properties. According to the Puranas, Brahma resides in the root of this tree, Vishnu resides in the trunk and Shiva resides in the branches. By worshiping this tree, women get good fortune and problems in marital life get solved.<\/p>

Worship method of Vat Purnima fast<\/strong><\/p>

On this day, wake up early in the morning and take bath. Women should wear red- or yellow-coloured clothes on this day.<\/p>

It is considered very auspicious for women to do 16 adornments on this day.<\/p>

After getting ready, there is a tradition of taking water in hand and taking a resolution for the fast.<\/p>

Now worship the banyan tree and chant mantras. Then offer water to the banyan tree and fan it with a bamboo fan.<\/p>

After this, it is necessary to sit under the Vat and listen to the story of the fast.<\/p>

Apart from this, take a bamboo basket and keep seven types of anam, fruits, flowers, kumkum, mother-in-law’s saree, raw cotton, makeup material and lamp in it.<\/p>

Along with worshiping the banyan tree, light a lamp and also wrap a thread along with doing parikrama. Along with this, apply kumkum and turmeric tilak on the tree.<\/p>

Apart from this, offer Prasad mixed with gram and jaggery.<\/p>

Now touch your husband’s feet and give him Prasad and fan him with a bamboo fan. The fast is broken with sweet food and fruits as prasad.<\/p>
