The priest ties it to the attendees after the puja. Also known as a Kalava, it is usually red or yellow in color. While some people remove it after a day or two, others keep it tied on their wrists for years. It is believed that wearing this Kalava, a symbol of strength and protection, increases happiness and prosperity in life. It is tied on the right wrist of men and the left wrist of women.

What is Kalava?

It is a type of Raksha Sutra, also known as God’s blessing. According to scriptures, this Kalava is seen as a symbol of the three gods: Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. This sacred thread increases positive energy in life and brings peace and purity. A Raksha Sutra is especially worn during puja or havan.

How long should a sacred thread be worn?

If the sacred thread is worn for too long, its color begins to fade and it can have an impact on personal life. According to religious beliefs, it should be worn on the wrist for twenty-one or forty days. Tuesdays and Saturdays are considered appropriate days to remove it. According to astrology, the sacred thread’s energy begins to diminish after 21 days.

Make sure to make a fist with your hand while tying it and place the other hand on your head. Also, remember to give alms to whoever ties it on your wrist. Wrap it 3, 5, or 7 times. After the color comes off, keep it in a sacred place instead of throwing it in the trash.

Know when and which colour kalawa should you wear

When and Why to Tie a Red Kalava

It brings positive changes to your life. Remember to tie it at an auspicious time. This helps ward off the evil eye. Wearing a red Kalava dedicated to Lord Hanuman on Tuesday is considered auspicious. It reduces mental tension and increases happiness and prosperity.

When to Wear a Black Thread

A black thread is tied on the wrist to ward off the effects of black magic. It provides relief from evil eye and unusual changes in behavior. It is also worn on the wrist and ankles. Saturday is considered auspicious for this ritual. It provides relief from negative energy.

Rules for wearing a yellow thread

Yellow generally represents concentration and self-confidence in life. It is associated with the planet Jupiter. If this planet is weak, it can affect your married life. In such a situation, wearing a yellow thread is used to balances both personal and professional life. Students and teachers should especially wear this thread on Thursday. This helps one move towards spirituality.

Green thread benefits

Mercury represents intelligence and communication. If Mercury is weak in your horoscope, it can help bring clarity to your speech and help you remember things. For this, tie a green thread around your wrist. Green symbolizes prosperity, which helps develop your luck factor. Wearing it provides relief from health problems and also helps develop your intellect. If you also want to empower Mercury, tie a green thread around your wrist three or five times on Wednesday. This will help get stalled tasks completed and help you overcome obstacles.

White Kalava

A white thread is especially beneficial for some zodiac signs. For Taurus and Libra, the ruling planet is Venus. Therefore, to gain the powers of Venus, wear a white silk thread. This helps control spending and increase income. It also helps resolve health problems. This thread should be worn after bathing on Fridays. Remember not to give your thread to anyone else, nor should you wear anyone else’s.

Know more about Kalava, talk to our Astrologer now!

For more, find us on Instagram.

It is customary to tie a Raksha Sutra on the wrist during a havan, puja, wedding or any other auspicious occasion.
