Bhai Dooj on Monday, 16 November 2020

It is the festival of love between brothers and sisters when sisters put ‘Teeka’ on the forehead of their brothers to wish long life and prosperity for them.

In return, the brothers take vows to protect his sister from any untoward incident and present gift items, as per their capacity.

Wife of Lord Sun, Chhaya had two children, YamRaaj and Yamuna.

The Yamuna used to invite her brother to come to pay a visit to her house and YamRaaj was unable to fulfill her sister’s wishes, due to some other reasons.

Finally, YamRaaj went to see the Yamuna on the second lunar day of the bright lunar half of Kartik month, and seeing her brother at her place the Yamuna became very happy.

She offered him food items and entertained him as per her capacity.

YamRaaj became very happy with the gestures of his sister and asked her to make a wish to fulfill it.

The Yamuna requested him to come to her house every year the same day and took a promise from YamRaaj that every sister who put ‘Teeka’ on the forehead of her brother on this tithi, she will remain fearless about YamRaaj.

YamRaaj granted the Yamuna this wish and went to his place YamPuri. Since then, this festival is celebrated by the sisters to wish a long life to their brothers.
