Significance of Guru NanakDev Jayanti

Devotees perform a prayer for forty-eight hours. On the auspicious day of Gurpurab, the prayers end.

One day before the festival, people prepare for processions in honour of Guru NanakDev. The procession consists of carrying Sikh Flags and the palanquin of Guru Granth Sahib.

Devotees decorate the Palanquin or ‘Palki’ artistic way with their hands.

The Story Behind the Celebration of Guru NanakDev Jayanti

Guru NanakDev Jayanti is one of the most popular festivals on the Sikh calendar. This day celebrates the birth of the greatest and most selfless teacher, Guru NanakDev.

According to mythological tales, on April 15, 1469, Guru NanakDev was born. The tale mentions that his father belongs to the town of Talwandi.

Guru NanakDev Jayanti Across the Country
